Top 10 comedy on Hulu

Hulu has a huge library of comedies in which I personally can rarely find something worthwhile quickly. So I decided to help you out and share my experience of choosing comedies on this service. Yes, maybe the movies I chose are not the funniest – humor is very subjective – but I can confidently say that you will find at least one movie from this list for your evening viewing. I’ve tried to choose a variety of movies so that everyone can find something to their taste.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

  • Year: 2014
  • Runtime: 1 h 39m
  • Genre: comedy, adventure, detective
  • Director: Wes Anderson

This was my first Wes Anderson movie – the most beautiful and aesthetically pleasing on this list. It follows the adventures of Gustav X, a concierge, and his protégé, Mustafa, who become embroiled in a story involving a stolen painting and an inheritance dispute. This movie has everything – great actors, incredibly memorable style, interesting non-linear narration, and many funny yet heartwarming situations. It is a beautiful comedy that I want to watch again and again, which I often do.

Palm Springs

  • Year: 2020
  • Runtime: 1 h 30m
  • Genre: science fiction, romantic comedy
  • Director: Max Barbakov

This is a groovy romantic comedy reminiscent of Groundhog Day with time loop elements. The main characters, trapped in a closed loop, explore the deep questions of life and love while trying to find a way out of the endless repetition of the same day.

The Death of Stalin

  • Year: 2017
  • Runtime: 1h 47m
  • Genre: political satirical black comedy
  • Director: Armando Iannucci

This great comedy is based on historical events about the mad power struggle after Stalin’s death. The movie will be interesting even to those who are not familiar with the history of the Soviet Union. Whether the descriptions of Stalin’s inner circle are accurate or some factual details are omitted doesn’t matter. This magnificent narrative of the Soviet Union’s transformation from one monster to just a tamer dictator is a work of art. Steve Buscemi as Khrushchev and Jason Isaacs as Zhukov is compelling, bringing irony and absurdity to serious historical events.

The Banshees of Inisherin

  • Year: 2022
  • Runtime: 1 h 54m
  • Genre: dark tragicomedy
  • Director: Martin McDonagh

It is a heartwarming comedy about the fractured friendship between two men, played by Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. This unconventional but unforgettable film is on this list because of the synergy between the two fine actors, who I personally loved, especially after their work together in “In Bruges”

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

  • Year: 2017
  • Runtime: 1 h 59m
  • Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy
  • Director: Jake Kasdan

The first part of the indirect sequel to the legendary movie “Jumanji,” which is inferior to the original but is one of the best family comedies of recent years, where a group of teenagers appears inside a video game with dangerous adventures and all this in one of the best acting comedy tandems of the last year. There is also a second part of this movie – “Jumanji: The Next Level”, but it is a bit weaker

Meet The Parents

  • Year: 2000
  • Runtime: 1 h 48m
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance
  • Director: Jay Roach

Perhaps the funniest comedy on the list. The synergy of Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller creates a unique atmosphere of absurd and comical situations as a young man tries to gain the trust of his future father-in-law. In the process, he encountered a series of awkward and amusing ones that had me laughing wildly. Perfect for those looking for a light comedy that is sure to embarrass you throughout the movie

  • Year: 2007
  • Runtime: 1 h 53m
  • Genre: Comedy
  • Director: Greg Mottola

This teen comedy that has become a classic is about two friends trying to enjoy their last days before graduation. This movie, an entire generation grew up in, is full of laughter, friendship, and unforgettable moments. Starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera have great chemistry in this movie, and their comedic talent makes their adventures funny and touching.

  • Year: 2019
  • Runtime: 2 h 12m
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Thriller
  • Director: Bong Joon-ho

I included it at the top because it is unique, combining comedy, drama, and interesting plot twists. The movie explores class differences through the story of two dramatically different families whose fates intertwine unexpectedly and shockingly. “Parasites” offers an in-depth look at real social inequality, doing so with a series of funny and suspenseful moments. This movie opened up Korean cinema for me, making me realize that it’s not only Hollywood that makes masterpieces.

Tropic Thunder

Year: 2008
Runtime: 2 h 1m
Genre: Action, Comedy, War
Director: Ben Stiller

This movie is about a group of actors stuck in a real war zone trying to make a movie about the Vietnam War. It’s like a comedy version of Apocalypse Now, with more explosions and fewer philosophical monologues.

The cast is like Hollywood threw a party and everyone got invited: Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, Tom Cruise and many others, all actors you would never expect to see in one movie. Some people may say that the humor is a bit excessive and sometimes even offensive, but for me, it is quite in the style of comedies with Ben Stiller.

The Art of Self-Defense

  • Year: 2019
  • Runtime: 1 h 44m
  • Genre: Comedy, Crime, Drama
  • Director: Riley Stearns

The movie follows a man searching for self-confidence through the study of martial arts after being the victim of an assault. This black comedy, with a satirical look at masculinity, fear, and strength, offers profound and comical reflections on self-defense and masculinity today. Eisenberg, in his role, never fails to entertain. As someone interested in karate, I really enjoyed the subtle tweaks and satire on the more Westernized version of martial arts. One thing I love about this movie is the very dark humor. It wasn’t advertised or shown in the trailers, which was a fantastic surprise.
